Becca + Levi

The weather was perfect for this wonderfully fun Vermont country style wedding in Wolcott, Vermont. Becca and Levi deiced to have the ceremony on top of a hill with spectacular views of the Vermont countryside in the distance. Becca's grandfather was the officiator and their dog Moe was part of the wedding party as well. It was a fun loving group of people and I must say Gael Cantlin, my second shooter, Barb Pelliccione, third shooter and assistant and I had a fantastic time!

The ambience of the day was laid back, relaxed and "fun" and so typical of a Vermont country style wedding. We started at Artistic Roots Salon in Morrisville, VT where Becca and her bridesmaids were getting their hair and make-up done. Becca had the wedding rings, flowers, wedding dress and a silver and turquoise arrowhead necklace her grandfather had given her so I was able to take a few detail shots of those, along with her wedding Birkenstock shoes. Relaxed and comfortable and perfect for the Vermont country environment and dancing the night away!

We did not have a lot of time at the salon but before we left for Becca's mother's home for the First Look we were able to take a few photographs of Becca getting ready and a couple bridal portraits as well.

As always when there are two wedding photographers, Gael Cantlin is photographing the groom and his groomsmen and in this case, family and dogs as well, while I am with the bride and her bridesmaids.

Then it was time for the "First Look". Becca wanted this by a tranquil pond on her mother's property and we hiked up the hill to where Gael and Levi were waiting. Unfortunately we could not get down to the pond for the reveal so we organized it just above on the path and with two photographers we could capture this first reveal from different angles.

Then Becca had a special surprise wedding gift for Levi and she presented him with a beautiful Treehunt watch.

We took a few more wedding photos by the pond and then headed back to the house for the traditional bridal party and family photos.

I love mixing the candid with the traditional wedding photos and a lot of the time Gael and Barb are watching for those special moments while I am photographing the "formals" or visa versa.

Then after a short break it was time to head for the wedding ceremony location. The view was breathtaking and you could see for miles on this beautiful summer's day! The sun was out and the shade limited so most of wedding party opted for sunglasses rather than squinting in the bright sunlight.

After the wedding ceremony most of the guests headed over to the reception location on Levi's father's estate, where the casual Vermont country theme continued while the wedding party and family stayed behind for some traditional and candid photographs on the hillside.

The reception area was perfect for wedding photos as the Vermont light was at its best and the large tent reflected a lot of the natural light so our off camera lights could be used as backlight for the first dance and no artificial light was needed at all for the wedding reception detail photos.

Becca and Levi allowed almost 45 minutes for their sneak out wedding romance session and that gave us plenty of time to explore the beautiful woods and glens and pick out the best locations for the magical Vermont light. It also gave us time to set up some off camera lights for an even more dramatic effect.

Then it was back to the party for some serious dancing, hugging, cake cutting and having fun!

In 2019 and 2020 I would love to do more local, relaxed, Vermont style country weddings so if you are thinking of exploring that route, please contact me. I would love to hear all about your wedding day plans.
